They say everyone has their own internal beat, a sound that sets their veins and internal electricity on fire, and I think I have found mine. Hypnagogic is the transitional state between being awake and falling asleep, and out of one of my sleep twitch infested nightmares comes a band called Weird Dreams to fill my sleepy ear drums with eternal bliss. I am not sure what that says about me, but if you ask any of my friends they’ll tell you at times I am verging on a zombie like state I can be that relaxed. This little band from London does that to me, and this is why I love them so much.

I wish I could tell you one part of this track I dislike, but I can’t. Every song has it’s defects, but with “Hypgogic Lullaby” I love every querky, sleepy little second of it. Every single part of my body is swaying to the start of this track, like an intoxicated hippy on the first day of a festival, I can’t help it! The central part of the track with that gorgeous guitar solo riff and the ghostly “Hypnagogic Lullaby” lyrics echoing in the background brings so much atmosphere in the track, you can feel it surrounding you, it is just about musical nirvana for me. The track is building to a climax, and it doesn’t keep you waiting for long, the gorgeous guitar starts again, and builds, and builds into a sustained riff that wakes you for a moment and then calmly brings you back in to the stunning sequence at the start of the track, to let you know, their work is done.

Weird Dreams are just starting to make their way in the musical abyss, and from what I have heard so far I can’t wait for a full album from this cockney outfit. This band will definitely not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you’re a fan of dreamy bands like Metronomy, I strongly suggest you give them a listen. Come on UK, let’s get behind these guys and get them to the top! Apologies for my Olympic like rant, but that’s just me embracing British artists in a silly way. Get out there, give them a listen, just don’t fall asleep in the process (wink wink).
