OK, so I may have been a bit late in latching on to this band, OK very late, but I am so so glad that I have now! I first heard The Violet May while I was drooling over a Kate Moss commercial for god knows what, when my ears pricked up as I heard “What You Say” supporting the advert. I was immediately drawn to their atmospheric sound, and this is why you should be as well.

The Violet May are a band that combine the madness of Punk, the coolness and atmosphere of Alternative Rock, and the cheeky riffs that Brit-Pop offers, which is what makes them so exciting for me.

I wish I could pick out a favorite track from their EP, but they combine so many great pieces of rock together it makes it near impossible! With hints of Brit-pop, Punk, Alt Rock, snippets of the White Lies and Kasabian, and perhaps even the great Queens of the Stone Age, all wrapped up in a band from Sheffield. If I was to pick out my own personal highlights, give “TV” and “Jennifer Lies” a listen, they have everything that I am trying to say.

This band are simply a fresh, exciting, brilliant injection into my own personal Rock genre. They have so much energy, atmosphere, and buzz, it is hard not to bang my head like a mad man in even the most public of places when one of their tracks is on. Although it has taken me a long time to notice them, all I can say to the music industry is “SHAME ON YOU” for them not being one of the biggest things out there right now! With bands like The Killers churning out the soulless tosh they have been recently, we have an act that sounds truly unique and exciting who don’t appear to be getting a look in. My hope is that 2013 is a massive year for The Violet May because they deserve it. And breath Joel!
