It is almost getting boring how much great British music there is around now………….Nahhhhh, i’d be mad to think that! Here is another one coming your way in the form of Daughter. This band were formed in London (I know, London, again!!!!) on the back of Elena Tonra’s solo work, and great things have happened since this trio came together.
One of these great peices you might of heard on our last Music Knights show, a track called “Landfill”. This really is a truely inspirational peice of music. I have likened them a bit to the XX, with their spooky twangy guitar sounds, but they have truely decided what sort of sound they want to produce, with stunning consequences.
“Landfill” is orchestrated at the start by Elena’s beautifully soft lyrics, leading in to some ghostly echo’s from Igor Haefeli’s guitar, but the chorus is really where this track comes to life, as Elena pushes her voice, the sound produced from Igor’s guitar sends a shiver or two down the spine, it is almost like another lead voice is on the track it is that good. And when you think the chrous has ended, it moves to another level with some spikingly good guitar work, and Elena bringing it to a great soft conclusion.
This band is still very much in it’s infancy, but with the quality we have heard from them already, we expect great things from them. Daughter expect to release their debut album early next year, and the excitement is growing for it, with their track “Smother” already being picked up by Radio 1, and a library of EP tracks gaining an almost cult like following on the music blogs. 2013 is going to be an interesting year for Daughter, queue a giddy dance!
