The UK continues to bubble with brilliant music, and now along comes a band called Pale to add an extra splash of colour to the music scene canvas. I wish I could tell you about this band, but all I can say at the moment is they are from London, that is all! Who knows, they might be a campaign by David Cameron! For all we know this is his project to show of his musical talents and try and win extra voters, but anyway, back to reality Joel.

The music this band produces is really quite brilliant, one of my fellow knights likened them to early Duran Duran, but I like to think of them as a slower paced Depeche Mode, with their dark, experimental sound, particularly with the vocals, where the lead singers voice is like Dave Gahan mixed with a dash of Brandon Flowers from The Killers.

“Too Much” is the first track from the bands debut EP, and I am quite simply addicted! The repetitive ghostly keyboard riff that accompanies this track is spookly great, it is like a scene from Tron where a fresh program is being transported into a game, ready for death. The vocals start off slowly, but build, and you get to hear the real power the singer has in his voice, but it is one of those voices that has real character and quality to it, like you haven’t heard it a million times before, which gives the track even more authenticity. In the chorus you can really hear the pain in the lyrics, like they have actually written and understand it, it is simple, and refreshingly great.

It is strange listening to Pale because it feels like you have turned the clock back, but it has also stayed current. You can tell when you are listening to an 80’s track, but this is different, it has a modern beat, the voice is powerful, better than you would expect from a modern band, and it has enough electronic to keep any 80’s fan entertained.

I hope more comes out about Pale, and their popularity rises. My only fear is their music might be a little too experimental and dark to get them into the limelight, but then again the XX have proved you can make it with a dark and moody undertone to your music. The talent on show in this outfit really is something else though, they combine so many of the musical pieces I love, and I very much look forward to the inevitable album, we want it now!
