I love it when a new and exciting British artist comes along! Something unique, or something you haven’t heard for a long time that makes your ear drums sit up and pay attention, and with Maigret Jnr I have most certainly found this. The only way I can describe his voice and style is like the love child between Beck and David Bowie (strange combo I know, but bare with me).

The track “Always Again” has a definite sniff of Beck about it, with the lazy cool beat that kicks things off, and when Maigret’s voice conducts the first verse you get a splash of David Bowie, most noticeably in the softer tones where the stunning London accent becomes more apparent. And when he pushes his voice, the sound of Beck becomes more noticeable, with that deep twangy sound that reverberates every hair. The synthesized culmination of this track is really quite stunning, and unbelievably catchy at the same time. You will find yourself singing and tapping along, or maybe like me mumbling as I haven’t quite worked out the lyrics yet, duuhhhhh. If this is what their love child was meant to sound like, why didn’t it happen sooner!??? The sheer enjoyment I get out of this artist is untouchable, his lyrics and voice are strangely soothing, and the backing to his tracks could not have been picked better, I honestly can’t wait for a full album.

I am so excited about what this artist has to offer, and what the coming months have in store for my eagerly awaiting ears.  Maigret Jnr’s first EP “Sick Friends” is out now, and I strongly suggest you go and get yourself a copy, as I think we are witnessing something a bit special. The UK is in a golden generation of music at the moment, and with Maigret Jnr we might just have raised the bar a little further, and in a slightly different direction. World take notice, the brit’s are coming for you. Eartastic!
