Some of the greatest discoveries have been made by accident in this world, and while I am not claiming to have found the cure for the common cold or anything like that, in my crazy little music world, I have uncovered a sexy, soulful, surprising gem from London known as Glass Animals.
On one of my usual Friday night music binge fests, can of Boddingtons in one hand, the other poorly trying to operate a tablet in desperate search of new music, a couple of tracks caught my eye. In my own admission, I was actually meant to click on another link, but loaded this track instead. Whether it was the fast acting Boddingtons that caused my finger to drift, or my disgraceful computer skills, I am SO glad it did!
When “Holiest” loaded, what greeted me was quite simply saucey sex on a digital music stick! This track should get any gentleman to atleast second base, and if it doesn’t manage to seduce a lady into bed, then you only have yourself to blame. I love that cheeky percussion at the start, and it periodically joins in with that infectious beat throughout the track, remonicent of the Fugees great days, you almost expect Lauryn Hill to start belting out one of her stunning highs. Instead, note has to go to the vocals from the featured artist Tei Shi, she sets the scene, and then lays on an even more seductive edge to the track. With lyrics like “Look at the mess you’ve made”, you feel like you’ve been a bad guy for even daring to listen to this track, I love it!
Glass Animals are quite a mixed bag, which makes their style hard to pin down. “Holiest” goes off at a slighty different tangent once again, and we love them for it! If this group contiues to roll music like this off their talented production line, then we expect big things, as well as a bevy of one night stands 😉
