Every now and then a piece of much comes along that makes every hair on your body stand up on end, makes your ears sit up and pay attention, and a London artist called Ben Khan is the architect. I honestly don’t know how I haven’t heard this guy before, I only had to do a small search online, and the blogs are going crazy about him, and when I saw he was a Londoner it made writing this review that much sweeter.
The tones and sampling in his music are brilliant, with shades of Hip Hop, and throw back sounds that feel like they have been scientifically picked to make you dance. The track “Eden” continues his evolution of what I’m going to refer to as “Chill Soul”. It is funky, dark, uplifting, moody, haunting, all those things and so much more, you just cant help moving to it. Ben Khan’s smooth soulful voice is another revelation, it’s like Honey on Toast, and on “Eden” it has a ghostly feel to it to give the track even more edge.
It is incredible how much talent we have in this great country of ours at the moment, and Ben Khan is producing some of the most enjoyable music, UK or globally, I have listened to for some time. This new dreamy, chill generation are taking genres, tearing them up, and then re-writing them into something a bit special.
People say films are able to affect your mood, brighten your day, and they do, but for me, music much more so. It is something you feel deep inside, can lift you up, turn a bad day into a great one, and Ben Khan does that for me. So just do your ears and soul a favour and look him up, coz I’m off to listen again, and again, and again, and again…
