Let’s be honest, this band will not win any prizes for their name, they join the ranks of Athlete, Bush, Elbow, and the disturbingly named Poopfist (no joke, Google it) of terrible names, but this doesn’t matter because Delta Spirit are just too dam good to listen to. From San Diego, California, here in the UK we will not be familiar with them, but Delta Spirit have released 5 studio album’s, the latest of which hit 103 in the US billboard chart, this band are definately not to be underestimated.

With the track “Money Saves” it is like the band have opened up a little window in my head, blown the cobwebs away, flicked the spiders from the windowsill, and found the book titled “All the sounds Joel loves in a rock track” how did they do it!? The guitar riff is simple, but I guess that’s why I love it, i’m a simple guy, and sometimes the best songs are the most simple. They then stick in a great beat to get many a finger tapping many a knee, and Matthew Vasquez’ echoey vocals then complete this great peice giving the band a real souly, almost drive through the desert sort of sound. It’s hard to explain because we don’t have bands like this in the UK, but the only thing I could imagine doing listening to this track is driving Route 66 in a big American soft top, windows down, and why not, some big sunglasses as well!

It’s rare you hear a band that have all the ingredients right in their music, but I think that is what I have found with Delta Spirit, they just fit, and everything works. The result is some very listenable music, the kind that will earn the album case a long time on the dashboard of your car, getting you to have a cheeky look now and again, just in case you haven’t forgotten a track. Hopefully this review will get the word out further for Delta Spirit, because they deserve a global base. All I will say is, buy their new album, no downloads, get the CD, put it on in your car and enjoy, happy trails!
