The Foals originate from leafy Oxford in England, and since 2005, they have been releasing a brand of indie and dance punk that has been getting a lot of attention from both sides of the pond.  This track below was probably the song that was the catalyst to their mainstream success, with Radio 1 playing the track “Spanish Sahara” – which seemed catapult them to the top of the indie pedestal at the time.

As well as having their album Mercury nominated, this track has been used on US hits like Entourage, as well as UK hit series’ such as Misfits and Skins.  The track starts off incredibly slowly, with periodic guitar strums over a light beat, and then the vocal comes in after 40 seconds or so, with a whispering yet gritty texture.

Soon on though, the song comes in to its own, as the beat gets quicker, and the instruments get louder, and they then result in the first mini cresendo.  A beautiful sound.  This then tapers off, readying for phase 2 – a progressive, electro led procession which is obviously readying itself for an ominous eargasm.  Sure enough, it happens.  Patience needs to be a virtue with this song, but when we get to just after 4 minutes, the raw beat rains down on us, together with some aurally beautiful yet repetitive guitar sounding keyboard riffs.

Simply amazing.
